India Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Forecast for October 2
New Delhi – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several states for Thursday, October 2, 2025. A combination of weather systems, including a low-pressure area and active monsoon conditions, is expected to bring significant downpours to eastern and northwestern India. Residents in affected areas are advised to exercise caution.

Weather Overview by Region:
Delhi-NCR
The national capital region is expected to experience generally cloudy skies with the possibility of light rainfall and thunderstorms. Winds are predicted to blow from the southeast at speeds of 8 to 15 kmph.

While major disruptions are not anticipated, the change in weather will bring some relief from the recent heat. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 32°C to 36°C.[1][2]
Eastern India: Bihar and Jharkhand
Eastern states are bracing for an intense wet spell.
- Bihar: A yellow alert has been issued, with forecasts of heavy rain and thunderstorms from October 2 through October 7. Gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are also likely. The IMD predicts continuous rain, with heavy showers expected in districts like Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj.
- Jharkhand: Light to moderate rain is expected in most districts on October 2 and 3, with some areas likely to receive heavy rainfall.
Northwest India: Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh
- Rajasthan: Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in parts of the state on October 1st, continuing with scattered rainfall expected until October 4. The IMD has also issued warnings for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
- Uttar Pradesh: Rain is expected to continue until October 2, particularly in eastern UP. The forecast indicates that rainfall will intensify from October 3 onwards, with the possibility of very heavy rain on October 4 and 5.
Himalayan Region: Uttarakhand
After a brief respite, rain is set to resume in the hill states. While the most intense rainfall in Uttarakhand is predicted for October 6 and 7, the preceding days will see building monsoon activity. The IMD has warned of thunderstorms and lightning in the region. Residents and travelers in hilly areas are advised to be particularly cautious due to the risk of landslides triggered by heavy rain.
